- How do I contact the CES Office?
A: The CES office can be reached at (408) 574-3800 x77156, Monday through Friday between 0900-1700 hours.
- Can I get reimbursed for Continuing Education?

A: Yes. A maximum of (24) hours - per calendar year will be paid to FULL TIME paramedics. A maximum of (12) hours - per calendar year will be paid to FULL TIME EMTs.
- What do I do if I am locked out Ninth Brain or forgot my password?
A: Contact the CES Office during normal business hours to have your password or access reset. If you discover the problem during non-business hours, please submit a CES Request form and drop it in the CES Office Box. It will be processed at the next available business day.
B: You can also request a new password from Ninth Brain. The tool will generate a new password and email it to you – as long as you have a current email on file with Ninth Brain.
- Do Paramedics have to re-apply for a new EMS badge when the current county EMS badge expires?
A: Yes. Your local Santa Clara County EMS Badge represents your accreditation and is required to be on your person when on duty. The expiration on your EMS badge is the same as your paramedic license. Per LEMSA, paramedics must submit a new EMS 901 Application at the time of their renewal. (EMS Policy 613 – 04/01/2009)
- Where is the EMS Agency office located?

- Does the CES Department let me know when my Certifications/Credentials are about to expire?
A: Yes. All your required credentials/certifications – along with other pre-designated documents have been assigned alerts through the Ninth Brain Management Tool. This tool will send email/pager alerts as you get closer to your expiration dates. It is your responsibility to keep your contact records current.
- How do I become a Field Training Officer
A: Field Training Officer applications may be submitted throughout the year. Interviews and hiring of FTOs will be based on operational need.
- How do I get my EMT-Skills sheet signed off?
A: You may do any of the following:
- Attend one of the scheduled EMT Refresher Courses
- Have your Skills Competency Verification Form signed off during the skills component of Infrequently Used Skills day
- Attend the Skills Review Day during Local New Hire Academy
Your skills form will then by signed off by the CES Training Coordinator or the designated alternate(s).
- What happens if my MEDS ID is no longer active?
A: Contact the CES Office during normal business hours to have your password or access reset. If you discover the problem during non-business hours, please submit a CES Request form and it will be processed at the next available business day.
- Can I just turn in copies of my credentials to the CES office?
A: No. All copies of required credentials/certifications must be copied onto official AMR or CES letterhead. You may come in to the CES Office during normal business hours or notify a Supervisor. The Supervisor’s Office has the required letterhead.
- What can I do if I’m short CE’s for my re-certification or accreditation?
A: AMR provides access to FREE CEs through the Ninth Brain Management Tool.
- Once you log into the system, you should see several headers at the top of your screen.
- Select TAKE A COURSE. You should now see several company courses listed under the “OUR COURSES” tab.
- Select the “NBS Library” tab to access a variety of FREE online courses available to you.
- Follow the required steps in order to complete the class and print your completion certificate for CE verification.
- Once you complete the course, it will be displayed on your education record – just like any other online course you have completed for AMR.
- Who can sign my County EMS Agency Application to verify my employment with AMR?
A: Currently, only the following may sign your EMS 901 Application for Employer Verification:
- Operations Manager
- CES Manager
- Does the CES office reimburse me for my BTLS certification?
A: Yes – Only if you are a Santa Clara County Paramedic Preceptor.
- How do I become a Preceptor?
A: All Paramedic Preceptor applicants must go through the AMR Internal Application process and meet all criteria listed in SCCO EMS Policy 206.
- Where can I pick up my new EMS county badge?
A: Applicants employed by AMR are not allowed to individually pick up their badge from the EMS Agency. All new SCCO EMS badges are picked up by pre-designated AMR personnel and can usually be picked up at the CES Office, after 3pm on Fridays.
